2020 African Schools Online
Individual Chess Championships

Dates: December 14 – 18, 2020

Under the auspices of the African Chess Confederation (ACC), Kenya Chess Federation (KCF) has the honour of inviting all African Federations affiliated to the World Chess Federation (FIDE) to participate in the 2020 African Schools Online Individual Chess Championship (ASOICC)



  • 9 Round Swiss Tournament
  • Time 25 min + 10 seconds per move
  • Players are not permitted to offer a draw before making 30 moves
  • Played in 10 age divisions (U17, U15, U13, U11, U9, Open and Girls)
  • Age groups are based on player’s YEAR OF BIRTH (eg. U17 players are born in 2003 or later)

Tournament Entry fee:  EURO €50 per player

Payments:  Payment of entry fee must be made at the time of entry.

If paying by credit-card you will be charged in Australian Dollars (the platform default currency) and the amount will display as USD $60 or EURO €50 – which will be approx AUD $82.

Payment by Bank Transfer must be made by December 7, 2020 or the player will be removed from the event.

Fair Play Regulations

Players must follow all Fair Play regulations at all times.

Our objective is to build a community of players that trust one another, any player receiving unfair assistance during a game will be removed from the event and their entry fee forfeit.

No appeals may be made on any Fair Play decisions, all such decisions are final.

  • Players must participate using their full, real name
  • Players must be visible on Zoom video camera feed at all times
  • Players must use screen-share
  • All games will be subject to statistical correlation analysis to verify fair play

All results are provisional until the conclusion of Fair Play verification process.


  1. Winners of each age category will receive economy class air ticket sponsorship by the African Chess Confederation (ACC) to participate in the 2021 World Individual Schools Chess Championships to be held in Halkidiki, Greece, 2nd to 11th May 2021.
  2. Winners will be awarded titles “2020 Online African Schools Champion ” for each category.
  3. Top three winners in each category will receive Official Certificate of Merit while all players will receive Official Certificate of Participation (digital/printable).
  4. This event will not be FIDE Rated and no titles can be awarded during online play.

Players taking the first three places in each category will be awarded Gold, Silver and Bronze medals respectively.


In case of two or more players finishing with the same number of points, the final order of placement will be determined by application of the following tie-breaking procedures in sequence, proceeding from 1. to 5. to the extent required:

  1. Buchholz (sum of opponents’ scores)
  2. Progressive (sum of progressive scores)
  3. Direct encounter
  4. Number of wins, the highest number wins
  5. Number of wins with Black, the highest number wins

Appeals Committee

The Chairperson of the Appeals Committee for the 2020 Online African Schools Individual Chess Championships will be appointed by the ACC President.

The Appeals Committee will consist of 3 members.

The other two members and two reserves will be chosen from among officials from the participating Federations.


This event is being managed by Tornelo under the direction of the Kenya Chess Federation. The Chief Organizer is Gilbert Wandera.
